5. Junkers Ju 87 Stuka
Germany - 1935
Quite possibly the most hated aircraft of all time, the Ju 87 Stuka dive bomber has come to symbolize the word “Blitzkrieg” every bit as much as the Panzer. With its bird-of-prey appearance and loud screeching sirens, the Stuka’s attacks were as devastating psychologically as they were physically. It's fearsome reputation would fade as the war progressed however. Slow and vulnerable in the air, the Stuka proved to be an easy mark for British pilots during the summer of 1940. Nonetheless the Stuka will always be remembered as the “flying artillery” of the Wehrmacht - “Where the infantry went, so went the Stuka.”
