1. V2 Rocket
Germany - 1942
The world's first long-range ballistic missile, the V2 was one of Hitler's vaunted "vengeance" weapons he hoped would change the course of the war. Some 6,000 V-2s were produced. Of those, roughly 1,660 were launched at Belgium while another 1,400 were launched at England. An estimated 1,700 people were killed in Belgium, while another 2,700 English civilians lost their lives. Though the V2 came too late to have any real impact on the war, it did lead to the rockets used in the Space Race, as well as the ICBMs of today.
